01About

I'm Gasser, a software engineer based in Brooklyn, New York. I build the whole thing: interfaces people can actually use, APIs that stay up when everything upstream is slow, payroll that can never pay twice, and the tests and servers that keep it all running.

CompenStation

Payroll for small teams

  • Owned the backend, API and security on a five-person team, then rebuilt it solo.
  • One database transaction per run, with row locks and a unique constraint. Nobody gets paid twice.
  • Money in cents, scrypt hashing, CSRF checks, rate limits, audit log.
  • 45 automated tests, 27 of them against a real PostgreSQL database, plus CodeQL and gitleaks in CI.

CS2 H2H

Head-to-head stats for FACEIT players

  • Finds every match two players shared as teammates or opponents. FACEIT doesn't show this.
  • Search suggestions as you type, with keyboard and screen reader support.
  • Caching, rate limiting and request queueing survive a slow upstream API.
  • Versioned releases, a changelog and 76 tests on every pull request.

LingoBuddy

Live chat translation for games

  • Electron overlay that reads World of Warcraft's chat log as it's written.
  • Detects each message's language and translates only the foreign ones, across 24 languages.
  • Companion Lua addon flags translated messages in game.
  • Being rebuilt from scratch for World of Warcraft: Forever.

03Stack

Front to back, and everything around it.

Backend

Node.js and Express APIs that treat correctness as a feature: transactions, validation, and errors that say what happened.

simplified from CompenStationawait db.transaction(async (tx) => { const period = await tx.lockPeriod(id); // row lock if (period.paid) throw new AlreadyPaid(); for (const e of period.approved) { await tx.insertStub(calcCents(e)); // no floats } await tx.markPaid(id); // unique constraint });

Security

Owned security on the team project, and built the same habits into everything since.

Shipping it

Both apps run on my own Linux server, not a click-to-deploy platform. I set up the server, HTTPS and health checks myself.

  1. git push
  2. lint + tests
  3. CodeQL scan
  4. Linux server
  5. live on HTTPS

04Journey

How I got here.

Freelance Discord developer

Built custom bots for clients (moderation, custom commands), set up roles and permissions, and connected servers to outside services with webhooks.

Warehouse associate, Amazon

Picked, packed and quality-checked orders on a high-volume floor in Brooklyn.

CompenStation begins

A five-person team project. I owned the backend, API routing and security, and my teammates built on my endpoints.

CS2 H2H, first release

A solo, open-source tool for FACEIT players, built because the stat I wanted didn't exist.

B.S. Computer Science, CUNY College of Staten Island

Core coursework finished with A and A- grades. Computer Science Club and Esports Club.
